The city is located in the south-east of Texas on Farm Road 1825, east of Interstate 35 in the north-east of the county, about 25 km north of Austin and has a total area of 29.4 km2. The waters of Pflugerville are the artificial lake Lake Pflugerville, built in 2005-2006, and the two creeks of Gilleland Creek and Wilbarger Creek. Lake Pflugerville is home to the Lake Pflugerville Park, which opened in 2010.
The town was named after Henry Pfluger, who left Germany with his family in 1849 and settled there.
According to the 2000 census, 16,335 people lived here in 5,146 households and 4,425 families. The population density was 556.2 inhabitants per km2. In ethnic terms, the population consisted of 77.18% white, 9.46% African-Americans, 0.24% Native Americans, 4.31% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Island and 5.99% other ethnic groups. Around 2.74% were of mixed descent and 16.69% of the population were of Spanish or Latin American descent.
Of the 5,146 households, 56.4% had children under the age of 18 who lived in the household. 72.4% of them were married couples living together. 10.4% were single mothers and 14.0% were not families. 10.1% of households were singles and 1.7% lived in people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 3.15 and the average family size was 3.39.
